Initial results on Election Night showed George Fuller ahead in the race to secure the open Oakley City Council seat for District 5.
With 43.55% of the vote, Fuller pulled ahead of his opponents Cristina Pena Langley, who had 37.34%, and Oleksii Chuiko with 19.11% as of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Contra Costa County Registrar of Voters confirmed that a final update for the night will be at 1:30 a.m.
Fuller ran on a campaign that prioritized establishing Project Labor Agreements between the city and trade unions, blocking any new taxes and developing an inclusive community with affordable housing.
Pena Langley said public safety, a clean community and economic growth were among her priorities. On Election Night, she told a reporter that if the numbers turned in her favor later in the night, she aims to make Oakley a great city to live in.
“As a teacher, I want to make it more affordable for families,” she said. “I want to develop a nice relationship with the city and bring positivity into politics.”
