Walnut Creek will officially celebrate the achievements of its hometown Olympic gold medalist, wrestler Amit Elor, at 1 p.m. Saturday at Civic Park.

Organizers invite people to bring a blanket or low-backed chairs and enjoy the opportunity to hear the 20-year-old’s story about victory at last month’s Paris Olympics.

There will be a question-and-answer session with Elor and two of her coaches. Guests will also have an opportunity to take photos with the gold medalist.

Mayor Pro Tem Cindy Darling will kick off the event, and ABC7 anchor Dan Ashley will facilitate the question-and-answer section.

Elor, a graduate of College Park High School, defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Meerim Zhumanazarova 3-0 Aug. 6 in the 68-kilogram final at the Olympics to become the youngest Olympic wrestling gold medalist in U.S. history, male or female.

The event will be held near the gazebo in Civic Park, at 1375 Civic Drive. While not required, the city asks people to RSVP so they have an idea of how many people to expect.
