Lainie Motamedi, who was appointed to the San Francisco School Board after a recall drive in 2022 and served as its president since January, said that she will step down, citing personal and health reasons.
Motamedi’s resignation announced Friday comes as the board, facing a steady decline in enrollment, weighs which of its 121 public schools to close, merge or co-locate. At the same time, it is beset by a shortage of teachers.
