It’s move-in week for UC Berkeley students; city’s population to swell by 8,700 by Sunday

Roughly 120,000 people call Berkeley their home, according to recent U.S. Census estimates. But when the moving trucks arrive — bringing with them students bound for UC Berkeley — the city's population can grow more than 7 percent in less than a week. (Flickred!/Flick, CC BY-NC)

It’s that time of the year again to watch out for moving trucks around University of California, Berkeley.

The city expects 8,700 new UC Berkeley students to move in before the end of the week. Berkeley police on Monday said designated student move-in days, which began Tuesday, will impact traffic on city streets. The move-ins continue Wednesday and Sunday.
