Monterey County officials closed a popular lake to visitors Wednesday while they try to determine the cause of a mass fish die-off that county staff first noticed last week.
State and county wildlife experts have not yet figured out why the fish are dying at Lake San Antonio, an inland recreation and camping area that straddles the Monterey and San Luis Obispo County line roughly 30 miles northeast from Hearst Castle.
