Kelly McAdoo, Hayward’s city manager and chief executive officer for eight years, is leaving to become the chief administrator of Santa Barbara.

McAdoo, who has spent a total of 13 years with the city of Hayward, was saluted by the city council in a special meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Her last day with the city will be May 3, officials said Friday.

The council approved a contract earlier this week to promote Assistant City Manager Dustin Claussen to interim city manager until a permanent successor is appointed. Claussen is Hayward’s former finance director.
