Fairfield police said that 11 protesters were arrested over the weekend for blocking the Air Base Parkway outside of Travis Air Force Base on Friday morning.Â
The protesters were identified as Samuel Cree, 27; Blaine Jackson, 23; Eaen Elliott, 19; Yulissa Sanchez, 22; Rayna Velasquez, 30; Nora Dondero, 26; Giselle Cisneros, 23; Jarvey Resa, 26; Vanessa Thil, 32 and Dafne Ramirez, 28. They were booked into Solano County Jail, under charges of failure to obey an officer and delaying traffic.
According to a press release, about 20 protesters convened at the intersection of Air Base Parkway and Parker Road at approximately 6 a.m.
At about 7 a.m., protesters made their way to the crosswalk across Air Base Parkway and blocked all traffic entering the main gate of the base. Police say that other members of the protest blocked the hospital gate entrance to the base.Â
After approximately five minutes, a team of officers advanced towards the group and gave orders to disperse from the roadway, but they stood their ground.
Officers proceeded to arrest the members of the group blocking the roadway. Traffic was then opened up at the base.
Police say that the Travis Air Force Base Security Forces found the road to the South Gate was blocked by a significant amount of junk furniture and a mass of nails meant to puncture tires of any vehicle driving up the roadway.
An anti-war banner was discovered on the clutter blocking the road. Suisun City police shut down Petersen Road for about an hour as the debris and nails were removed.
Travis Air Force Base say they were previously alerted to these protests and had requested assistance from the Fairfield Police Department.
