WHEN ENROLLING FOR classes for the upcoming school year, some Contra Costa County students will find a new and unique course option that promises a deep dive into the history and contributions of African Americans across the globe.

The Acalanes Union High School District (AUHSD) is the first district in the county to offer Advanced Placement (AP) African American Studies in 2024-25. This is the first year the course will be available to all U.S. schools following a two-year pilot program by the College Board. The four AUHSD schools are Acalanes, Miramonte, Campolindo and Las Lomas.
