Salinas officials said they will be conducting a new search to find a new police chief for the city.

Roberto Filice, who served as former police chief and assistant police chief for Salinas, was sworn in as assistant general manager of public safety and police chief at the East Bay Regional Park District in January.

The same month, John Murray was announced as the new assistant police chief in Salinas.

“Even before the near simultaneous January departures of our Police Chief and Assistant Police Chief, Salinas began searching for leadership replacements in these roles. Once we appointed our Assistant Police Chief at the end of January, we turned our focus on the search process for the Police Chief,” city officials said Tuesday.

“We have been diligently going through the required processing that Interim City Manager [Jim] Pia believed could lead us to selecting a Chief. At this time, however, the initial search has concluded without a selection.”
