Motorists in Palo Alto can expect delays and detours on Alma Street and El Camino Real and the Oregon Expressway underpass over the next few weeks as crews begin a series of traffic improvement projects.

Construction at the corner of Alma Street and Forest Avenue began Monday and is scheduled to continue through Feb. 16, according to the city’s website. Working hours are between 9 a.m. And 4 p.m.

Also on Monday, Caltrans began overnight work to repair the railroad bridge over Oregon Expressway. That project is expected to last eight weeks.

The Caltrans State Route 82 (SR-82) El Camino Real Pavement Rehabilitation and Improvement project will work on southbound Highway 82 from Palm Drive to California Avenue from Feb. 12-16 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Another project, intended to improve safety at the Churchill Avenue and Alma Street railroad crossing, began on Jan. 25. Temporary lane closures are set to continue through the spring. According to the city website, this project was proposed by the California Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board and the city of Palo Alto.
