A Santa Rosa police dog received a special recognition recently from U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, who honored public safety heroes of California’s 4th Congressional District.
K-9 Ghost, a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois and member of the Santa Rosa Police Department, was chosen by Thompson as one of the recipients of a special award for law enforcement during the annual “Public Safety Heroes Reception” on Jan. 14 led by the congressman in Vallejo.
According to Santa Rosa police, Thompson presented a Congressional Record certificate to Ghost. He was also presented with a congressional dog collar and personalized dog tag.
Ghost, along with his partner Officer Aaron Gonzales-Campos, has removed 13 illegally possessed firearms from Santa Rosa, police said.
“The Santa Rosa Police Department is incredibly proud of the continued work of Ghost and Officer Gonzales-Campos in the reduction of gun violence in the City of Santa Rosa. SRPD also wishes to thank Rep. Mike Thompson for his continued efforts in gun violence reduction and continued support of our agency’s work to accomplish the same,” Santa Rosa police said.
