Sausalito police Chief John Rohrbacher will retire on Dec. 24 after leading the department for more than seven years.
Rohrbacher joined the department as a captain in 2009. He previously served as an investigator for the Marin County District Attorney’s Office and as chief of the San Rafael Police Department, where he worked for more than 25 years.
“His mentoring of the current Sausalito command staff, including Acting Chief Stacie Gregory, will benefit us all for many years to come,” City Manager Chris Zapata said in a statement.
New technology was deployed under Rohrbacher including license plate cameras. His tenure also saw the development of comprehensive plans for managing tourist bicycles and the Sausalito anchorage, and oversight of a homeless encampment.
