Hayward residents can now register to dispose of household debris free of charge on Dec. 9.
Up to five cubic yards of household items — roughly equivalent to the full bed of an average pickup truck — can be brought to the city transfer station.
Certain items aren’t accepted, including paint, motor oil, pesticides, tires and car batteries, objects over 75 pounds (except furniture and appliances) and construction debris.
The disposal program is open only to residents of the incorporated City of Hayward. Registration and proof of residency are required. Space is limited and typically fills up fast, according to the city.
To sign up and join the waiting list, contact Maintenance Services at (510) 881-7745 or disposal.days@hayward-ca.gov.
