Drivers ticketed for burned-out headlights, expired registration and other minor violations can now submit proof of corrections online without coming into San Mateo County Superior Court’s Traffic Division.
Showing proof of corrections can lower the fines for a fix-it ticket to $25 once approved by a judge, the court said this past Friday.
Common fix-it tickets include mechanical issues involving headlights or tinted glass, expired registration and lacking valid insurance.Â
The Traffic Division’s online services are at www.sanmateo.courts.ca.gov/divisions/traffic.
Other online services can lower traffic citation fines without the need to appear in court.
After a plea of guilty or no contest is entered online, people can pay the reduced fines and sign up for traffic school if requirements are met, the court said.
Separately, using the Judicial Council of California’s MyCitations online tool, people can apply for fine reductions, payment plans, more time to pay, or ask to complete community service instead of paying fines and fees, according to the court.Â
