Stockton Mayor Kevin Lincoln said Tuesday that he will file with the Federal Election Commission to run for Congress in California’s 9th Congressional District.

Lincoln, a Republican, stated in his announcement that he is running “to fight for real change that puts the people of the Valley first.”
“Consensus isn’t easy, but it’s how you get things done for the people,” he added.
The district is currently represented by Josh Harder, a Democrat who won the 2022 election over San Joaquin County Supervisor Tom Patti, a Republican.
Lincoln was elected as Stockton’s mayor in 2020, defeating incumbent mayor Michael Tubbs, a Democrat.
As of the latest congressional redistricting, California’s 9th Congressional District comprises most of San Joaquin County, as well as parts of Contra Costa and Stanislaus counties. It includes the cities of Stockton, Tracy, Manteca and Lodi.
