The city of Vacaville is accepting registration for its inaugural Vaca Tri youth triathlon scheduled for May 21.
The event is hosted by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. It will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at Three Oaks Community Center.
Youth participants may compete in a triathlon competition, open only to children 7 to 14 years of age. Participants will compete in a supervised course that combines swimming, biking and running. The event originates at Three Oaks Park, with the swim portion taking place at the Walter Graham Aquatic Center and the bike competition on nearby trails. The running portion will be a closed course in the parking lot. Courses and distances will vary depending on age group.
The event will be held rain or shine.
Course requirements for each age group are as follows:
• Ages 13 and 14: Swim (200 yards/8 laps), bike (1 mile) and run (1/3 mile).
• Ages 11 and 12: Swim (200 yards/8 laps), bike (1 mile) and run (1/3 mile).
• Ages 9 and 10: Swim (50 yards/2 laps), bike (½ mile) and run (¼ mile).
• Ages 7 and 8: Swim (50 yards/2 laps), bike (½ mile) and run (¼ mile).
Every participant will receive a finisher’s medal. The registration fee includes a T-shirt and sponsor goodie bag. Pre-registration through May 20 is $35 per child. Day of event registration is $50 per child, if space allows. Event day registrants are not guaranteed a medal, T-shirt or goodie bag.
Participants may register in person at McBride, Three Oaks or Ulatis community centers or online.
