The police chief in San Carlos is set to leave the department next month to become the next chief of police in Redwood City, city officials announced.
Police Chief Kristina Bell was named police chief in San Carlos in December 2020.
“We are grateful to Chief Bell for her dedicated service to our community these past several years,” San Carlos Mayor Adam Rak said in a news release.
Bell focused on building community connections through policing, advocating for a dedicated community service officer to patrol downtown in the city, and supported events such as Coffee with a Cop, according to city officials.
“She has done a wonderful job keeping our community safe while upholding our values of inclusiveness and transparency. We wish her all the best in this next chapter of her career,” Rak said.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, which contracts with San Carlos to provide police services, will be working with the city to select a new chief in the coming weeks.
However, the community will not experience gaps in police services while the selection process takes place, city officials said.
