Hayward Planning Commissioner Ray Bonilla Jr. has been appointed to the Hayward City Council to fill the two years remaining in the term of the Elisa Marquez.

The Hayward council voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint Bonilla, who is head of global business continuity and crisis management at Meta Platforms Inc., formerly known as Facebook.
He replaces Marquez, who was recently appointed to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors to fill the seat left by the late Richard Valle.
Marquez’s term would have expired in November 2024.
Bonilla, a graduate of Cal State University East Bay and the University of San Francisco, was raised in Hayward and attended local schools, including Tennyson High School.
He is set to be sworn in on April 18.
Earlier this year, another Hayward planning commissioner was appointed to the Hayward council, to fill the unexpired term of Mark Salinas, who was elected mayor.
Dan Goldstein was appointed in January to complete Salinas’ term following his swearing in as mayor.
