A federal jury found that former Oakland Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick was fired in retaliation for blowing the whistle on alleged misconduct within the city’s police commission.

The verdict handed down May 26 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California also awarded Kirkpatrick $337,635 in damages, an amount equal to one year of her salary.
