On Monday, the USS Hornet Sea, Air and Space Museum held its annual Memorial Day ceremony to honor fallen U.S. service members.

The service featured a color guard, a memorial wreath toss into the bay and exhibits from the Walking Ghosts of Black History and the Friends and Families of Nisei Veterans.

There was also a special appearance, via Zoom, by Gene Millen, who served as a Fire Controlman 3rd Class aboard the original USS Hornet CV-12 during World War II.

The event was one of several Memorial Day events held around the Bay Area on Monday, like the lighting of the Mount Diablo beacon to honor U.S. service members.
