The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District Board of Directors has appointed Castro Valley resident Murphy McCalley to fill the vacant Ward 4 seat.

McCalley will represent portions of Hayward and San Leandro as well as the unincorporated areas of Ashland, Castro Valley, Cherryland, Fairview and San Lorenzo in Alameda County through the end of the existing term in December.

McCalley has a three-decades-long career in the transit industry, according to an announcement from AC Transit. He was the chief financial officer at the former Los Angeles County Transportation Commission and at San Diego’s Metropolitan Transit Development Board. Later, he worked in the private sector and started a consulting practice specializing in transit finance.

In his capacity as board director, McCalley will also serve on the AC Transit Financing Corporation Board of Directors and was recently appointed to the agency’s Inter-agency Liaison Committee, which include the cities of Hayward and San Leandro.
