Tori Verber Salazar will be competing in next month’s primary election to keep her position as San Joaquin County’s district attorney.

Salazar was the first woman elected as the county’s district attorney in 2015 after working in the county’s Gang-Homicide Unit.

Her opponent, Ron Freitas, has been a prosecutor for the District Attorney’s Office for more than 30 years and was named the California District Attorneys Association Instructor of the Year in 2017, according to his campaign website.

The election will be held June 7.
