A math teacher in Hayward is among six statewide named as finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
Anamarie Buljan teaches second-grade math at Fairview Elementary School in the Hayward Unified School District, where she has been a teacher for 25 years.
Buljan and five other teachers from around the state were named finalists by Tony Thurmond, California’s superintendent of public instruction.
Buljan was previously a finalist for this national award in 2016 and 2020, and she was named teacher of the year in her district in the 2019-20 school year. Among her many achievements, she has been a district math coach as well as the coordinator of professional development and the director of primary education for the Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative.
