The San Leandro-based community center Davis Street provided over 1,250 pre-packaged holiday baskets to families and senior households in need recently. Along with a full Christmas meal, toys and gift cards, families also received a $100 bill, thanks to a $100,000 donation from an anonymous donor.
With compound losses from the COVID-19 pandemic, Davis Street said their families have endured greater stresses during the holiday season. This donation, arriving from an “angel” donor for the second year in a row, made all the difference, according to the organization.
“For many families, this special gift allowed recipients to worry less about making ends meet this month and provided hope during a time where many are struggling,” Davis Street wrote in a news release.
