University of the Pacific will inaugurate Christopher Callahan as its 26th president on Wednesday.
Approximately 700 people are expected to attend the outdoor ceremony, which gets started at 3 p.m. on Knoles Lawn at the school’s Stockton campus.
The university said in a news release that presidents of several other universities will attend and speakers will include Pacific Board of Regents Chair and alum Norman Allen, Stockton Mayor Kevin Lincoln, former University of the Pacific President Pamela Eibeck, faculty members, students, alumni and others.
Callahan most recently served as founding dean of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University, He also served as CEO of the university-owned PBS station and vice provost for Arizona State’s downtown Phoenix campus. He was previously associate dean of the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at University of Maryland at College Park, a senior editor of American Journalism Review, and a journalist for the Associated Press in Washington, D.C.
