These maps were generated as part of a geotagging experiment that was developed for Bay Area News Collective, a collaborative project with Bloom Labs and seven local newsrooms in the San Francisco Bay Area.
These maps will help Local News Matters and newsroom partners obtain a more representative understanding of coverage gaps in local communities and provide a collective experience for local residents. In 2021, the project team began designing these maps after conducting dozens of resident interviews and surveys, and data analysis on recent news stories in the Bay Area. We hope the maps can help us continue learning how local news can be more collaborative and representative of the local communities.
