Mia Bonta is leading the race to fill the California Assembly seat vacated by her husband Rob Bonta, who resigned to become state attorney general, according to unofficial election results from the Alameda County Registrar of Voters.
Mia Bonta had 37.62 percent of the vote as of Wednesday afternoon. followed by Janani Ramachandran with 21.57 percent and Malia Vella with 16.5 percent.
The winner must receive 50 percent of the votes. If no candidate receives 50 percent, a special general election will be held.
The three and five others including James Aguilar, Victor Aguilar, Eugene Canson, Stephen Slauson and Joel Britton are running for the Assembly seat of District 18, which is contained in Alameda County.
Results from Tuesday’s election will be certified by July 8. The results could change as vote-by-mail ballots, provisional ballots and other ballots are counted.
