A Bay Area school is among 32 California schools recently named as this year’s recipients of Civic Learning Awards honoring achievements in civic engagement in classrooms.

Kairos Public School Vacaville Academy in Solano County was one of three schools statewide that earned a Civic Learning Award of Distinction.

A news release issued Tuesday cited the factors why the charter school earned the award: “Middle school students are required to take a community leadership course, where they participate in community service projects that support the school or local businesses. The program helps students learn how to be responsible, active citizens.”

Kairos Public School Vacaville Academy received a Civic Learning Award of Merit in 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017.

The awards program is now in its ninth year and this year’s awards put emphasis on school-based efforts that went uninterrupted despite the pandemic.
