In addition to naming Daly City’s first youth poet laureate, the Daly City Public Library Associates (DCPLA) will celebrate 10 years of service to the library this Saturday via an online celebration.
The event, called “DCPLA: 10 Years Strong”, takes place on Saturday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. It will be streamed via DCPLA’s Facebook page and the group’s YouTube channel, as well as via the DCPLA website.
DCPLA, a “Friends of the Library” group, has supported the Daly City Public Library with fundraising and programs for the last 10 years, providing over $265,000 for new books and technologies, library maintenance and programs.
Saturday’s event includes performances by the youth poet laureate finalists and a silent auction for items like a two-night stay at the Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa Valley. Attendees will also be given instructions on how to enter a raffle to win an Apple Watch.
Daly City’s youth poet laureate program is the first of its kind in San Mateo County. It is part of the National Youth Poet Laureate Program, which recognizes teen poets who are civically engaged and who demonstrate leadership and artistic excellence.
