Santa Clara County will offer pop-up coronavirus testing in San Jose and Gilroy next week in addition to its standard testing sites in San Jose, Sunnyvale and Los Gatos, county officials said Thursday.

The testing sites will have modified holiday hours during the week of New Year’s and will not offer coronavirus tests on New Year’s Day. However, testing will be available on all other days, including New Year’s Eve.

Dr. Marty Fenstersheib, the county’s COVID-19 testing and vaccine officer, also urged residents to avoid gathering for the holidays in addition to getting tested.

“It is imperative that everyone continues taking all preventive measures to curb COVID-19 transmission through the holiday season, which includes getting tested regularly if you are a frontline worker,” he said.

Pop-up testing will be available at Emmanuel Baptist Church in San Jose from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on New Year’s Eve; the Santa Clara County Public Health Department’s Story Road hub from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday; and the South County Annex in Gilroy from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 31.

Testing at pop-up sites is available without an appointment and is intended primarily for those without symptoms.

In addition, appointment-based testing is available at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 2-3; Sunnyvale’s Murphy Park from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday; and the Los Gatos Adult Recreation Center from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
