The California Department of Public Health Thursday announced the most recent statistics on COVID-19, saying that California has 1,158,689 confirmed cases to date.

There were 14,640 newly recorded confirmed cases Wednesday, though the department noted that the numbers do not represent true day-over-day change because the results include cases from before Wednesday.

The 14-day average positivity rate is 6.1 percent, according to the department.

There have been 23,096,745 total tests conducted in California. This represents an increase of 186,394 over the prior 24-hour reporting period, the department reported.

The department said that as case numbers continue to rise in California, the total number of individuals who will have serious outcomes will also increase.

There have been 18,979 COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
