The Concord, Clayton and Walnut Creek police departments are teaming up this month for a gun buyback event where residents can exchange firearms for gift cards.

The event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 16 at the Concord Pavilion at 2000 Kirker Pass Road, is only available to residents of those three cities.

Residents may be asked to show an ID or a utility bill at the event, where they can receive $200 in gift cards for an assault weapon, $100 for handguns, and $50 for rifles or shotguns, up to a maximum combined gift card total of $1,000.

All firearms must be brought to the event unloaded and stored in a car trunk or other locked container during transportation and arrival. People are asked to remain in the vehicle and not remove the firearm from the vehicle themselves, according to police.
