Marin Public Health is advising residents to get a flu shot between Oct. 1 and mid-November.
Public health officials urge everyone 6 months and older to be vaccinated before the flu virus begins circulating. The free or low-cost vaccinations are available at doctor’s offices and pharmacies regardless of health insurance status.
The Marin County Department of Health and Human Services is offering free flu shots on several dates and locations in San Rafael. They include the Canal Alliance on Oct. 1, the parking lot at Cardenas Market on Oct. 27, and the dining hall of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Marin County on Nov. 13.
In West Marin, shots are available through the Coastal Health Alliance at the San Geronimo Valley Community Center on Oct. 10, at the Tomales Town Hall on Oct. 15, at the Point Reyes Library on Oct. 29, and at the Stinson Beach Firehouse on Nov. 7.
“It’s too early to say how severe our flu season will be, but one thing we know is that we’re better protected if we’re all vaccinated,” deputy health officer Dr. Lisa Santora said.
