The city of Monterey is calling for artists to submit proposals for a mural and a sculpture to help celebrate the city’s 250th anniversary in 2020.
A city spokeswoman said the mural and sculpture would both acknowledge the city’s past, present and future, as well as its cultural diversity and “distinctive environment.” They would be placed at as-yet-undetermined gateways to the city.
Proposals must include a scale mock-up, in full color, as well as a developed concept and a summary of expected production costs.
Sealed proposals must be received by 4 p.m. May 24 at the Colton Hall Museum, 570 Pacific St., in Monterey.
A selection committee will review qualified proposals and make recommendations to the Museums and Cultural Arts, Parks and Recreation and Planning Commissions.
People can learn more about the application process at www.monterey.org/museums or at the Colton Hall Museum.
