Immersed: A reporter explores the world of immersive theater at virtual Burning Man

Ricky Thomas of South Africa and Tanner Wells of the United States, burners who met at AfrikaBurn in 2014, were working on an immersive theater experience for a large event in France in 2020 when the pandemic intervened. It seemed like the idea was dead, but Thomas posed the question: Could they turn a physical immersive experience into an virtual immersive experience? The Co-Reality Collective, which had been putting on online parties in the pandemic, invited Thomas and Wells to participate in the programming they were organizing for the 2020 virtual Burning Man.
