Who: Mike Chen, New York Times bestselling author
Recommendation: “Making It So” by Patrick Stewart
Why it’s a good read: Specifically the audiobook version of Patrick Stewart’s autobiography, it’s like having the man himself tell you his life story over a hot beverage next to a roaring fire. Most of it is anecdotes from his childhood, him nerding out about Shakespeare, or discussing his life’s regrets, and even with fairly minimal Star Trek content, this Trekkie was captivated. As soothing as a cup of tea, Earl Grey, hot.

Who: Tony Hicks, reporter and editor at Local News Matters
Recommendation: “Paul McCartney: A Life,” by Peter Ames Carlin
Why it’s a good read: Far from a typical Beatle fanboy book, looks at Paul McCartney from all angles. Explains him logically and in a balanced way, from boyhood into his senior years (and there’s lots of great Beatles info, of course).

Who: Spencer Otte, Bay City News intern
Recommendation: “Nixonland” by Rick Perlstein
Why it’s a good read: At almost 900 Pages, this is a bit of a doorstop, but it is a fascinating look at Nixon’s political rise and the cultural landscape of the 1960s that led to his presidency.
