Santa Clara County and the San Jose Earthquakes have entered into an exclusive negotiating agreement to explore the possibility of a long-term lease for a soccer training complex and practice fields at the county fairgrounds.

County officials said the plan would be to lease nearly 15 acres of the fairgrounds property to the Earthquakes for facilities for their professional team that is part of the Major League Soccer league, as well as for practice fields and a training site for the team’s Earthquakes Academy youth program.
