The Sunnyvale City Council has decided on a process and timeline for filling a vacant council seat after Councilmember Mason Fong announced earlier this month that he was leaving to take a position in Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration.
The City Council chose Dec. 14 as the date to declare Fong’s seat vacant and also decided they will appoint someone to the seat rather than hold a costly special election. The council at the Dec. 14 meeting will decide on the appointment process and will likely make a selection in February 2022 and the appointee will serve the rest of the term.
