Parents of students in the Napa Valley Unified School District are on high alert after being told a school bus driver was arrested for alleged sexual relations with a minor.
Maleehah Salvador, whose child is nonverbal and has autism, said she was informed of the arrest in an email sent by the school district Wednesday. Her child attends Phillips Magnet Elementary School — one of the schools on the driver’s route, according to Salvador.
NVUSD representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Napa police were unable to confirm the employment of anyone who had recently been arrested on sex-related charges.
In the email, the district stated that Napa police arrested the driver for an outstanding warrant for an alleged sexual relationship with a minor, but did not specify when the arrest took place.
“It is our understanding that this situation did not involve a current NVUSD student or NVUSD site,” read the email. “The bus driver was immediately placed on unpaid leave.”
The email also listed resources for families seeking counseling and bilingual examples of discussing traumatic events with children.
