Striking C&H Sugar workers to return as company, union extend contract negotiations

Warehouse workers at C&H Sugar factory in Crockett will return to their posts after walking off the job over a month ago to protest a proposed contract that cut down sick days, ended retiree medical benefits and gutted overtime rules.

According to a joint statement released Monday by C&H and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 6, which represents the 93 striking workers, both parties have agreed to extend negotiations for an additional 60 days to settle the contract dispute. Starting Wednesday, Local 6 workers will resume work at least through Sept. 30.
