Solano County sees return of West Nile virus after dead bird found in Vallejo tests positive

A dead bird picked up in Vallejo last week has tested positive for West Nile virus, according to Solano County officials.

The bird was collected in grasses near Cal Poly Maritime Academy in southern Vallejo on Tuesday. Mark McCauley, a supervisor with the Solano County Mosquito Abatement District, said West Nile starts to show up in birds and mosquitoes toward the end of July through August each year.
