The Berkeley Meals on Wheels program is seeking volunteers to help pack and deliver fresh, nutritious meals to homebound seniors on weekday mornings.

Volunteer shifts are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Meal packers begin at 8 a.m., while delivery volunteers arrive between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Most delivery routes take about an hour and include eight to 15 stops, according to the city.

The program also offers an on-call option for those unable to commit to a weekly schedule. Walking and biking routes are available for volunteers who do not have a vehicle, city officials said.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to serve independently, although younger volunteers may participate with adult supervision. All volunteers must pass a background check. Drivers must have a valid driver’s license, a vehicle, and current auto insurance.

Those interested in volunteering can contact Berkeley Meals on Wheels by phone at (510) 981-5250 or by email at MealsOnWheels@BerkeleyCA.gov
