Santa Cruz County has secured additional financing to complete Veterans Village of Santa Cruz County, a 20-unit permanent supportive housing community for veterans and their families in Ben Lomond, county officials announced.

The project received about $13.3 million in federal low-income housing tax credits over 10 years from the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, along with approval for tax-exempt bond financing through the California Debt Limit Allocation Committee.

Veterans Village will redevelop the former Jaye’s Timberlane Resort at 8705 Highway 9 into supportive housing for local veterans and their families, according to the county.

The project includes renovation of 10 existing cabins and a main house, plus construction of 10 modular one-bedroom units. Additional improvements will include office and laundry facilities and an on-site property manager’s unit, county officials said.

Development is expected to be completed in early 2027, a news release noted.

The project is supported by the county, the Santa Cruz County Veterans Memorial Building Board of Trustees, and affordable housing developer DANCO Group.

Initial funding included a $6.2 million Project Homekey grant, and 15 project-based Section 8 vouchers from the Santa Cruz County Housing Authority will help support long-term operations.
