ODC, San Francisco’s venerable organization dedicated to dance and community, is offering free health programs in person and online throughout February. Professionals in varied fields are volunteering their time and skills for ODC Healthy Dancers’ Clinic’s “Month for Dancers’ Health: Keep On Dancing!” Funded by donations, the series kicked off Feb. 1 with a session called “The Embodied Brain,” and 11 events at ODC Dance Commons in San Francisco’s mission, remain. They include:
“Moving Through Menopause” with physical therapist Karah Charette at 12:15 p.m. Feb. 7;
“Low Impact Movement for Improved Balance, Coordination and Strength” with dance instructor Cathleen McCarthy at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 12;
“Dance Longer with Cross Training and Recovery” with sports medicine doctor Selina Shah and ODC Health Initiatives Program Director Rachel Recinos Abair at 2:45 p.m. Feb. 14;
“The Joyful Body: Stress-Release & Feel-Better Tools for Every Age” with psychotherapist Rachel Fleischman at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 15;
“Maintaining a Healthy Career Through Nutrition” with dietician-author Libby Parker at 5 p.m. Feb. 17;
“Is It Age or Habit?,” in which pilates instructor Miquel Banket addresses the causes of health limitations, at 11 a.m. Feb. 19;
“Rewriting the Story of Aging: Creativity, Play, and Joy at Every Stage” with wellness coach Kirsten Olshan at 12:15 p.m. Feb. 21;
“Bloom-A Wellness App Made for Dancers, by Dancers” with Royal Swedish Opera and Royal Swedish Ballet dancers Arthur Erlanson and Lincoln Sharp at 10 a.m. Feb. 22; and
“Nourishing Dance: Conversation, Connection, & Community” with nutritionist, eating disorders specialist and former professional dancer Monika Saigal at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 22;
“Dancing for a Lifetime: Keeping Every Body Safe” with physical therapists Alyssa Herrera-Set and Ashley Burdick at 3 p.m. Feb. 22.
