Low-altitude helicopter flights by the National Nuclear Security Administration will be conducted over the Bay Area in advance of Super Bowl LX.

The flights will be conducted Monday through Wednesday, the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management said Friday on social media.

The Nuclear Emergency Support Team, an arm of the agency’s counterterrorism operation, flies a Leonardo AW139 helicopter equipped with radiation sensing technology.  

Measuring background radiation levels are part of standard preparations to protect public health and safety, according to the agency’s website.
