Teamsters Local 2010, a union representing 1,100 workers within the Cal State University system, has voted to authorize a statewide strike — a move the union may choose to act on if its concerns aren’t addressed.
Ninety-four percent of members voted to authorize the strike following months of alleged unfair labor practices. According to a media release issued Monday, the system has failed to pay raises and salary increases guaranteed under its contract.
Negotiations between the union and CSU are currently at an impasse, and Teamsters Local 2010 has filed both grievances and Unfair Labor Practice charges against the system.
“CSU is steering itself into a completely avoidable battle with the Teamsters Union,” said the union’s secretary-treasurer Jason Rabinowitz in a statement issued Monday. “Our members will not stand by while the University commits unfair practices, misuses state funds, breaks its promises, and enriches executives at the expense of the workers who keep its campuses running.”
