A veterinary hospital in the East Bay is hoping to recover the ashes of pets that were stolen last week from their facility.

The break-in happened early Friday, according to the Central Boulevard Veterinary Hospital, which posted video on social media of two suspects inside the facility.

The thieves found the pet hospital’s cash register and internal doors locked, but made away with three sets of pet cremains waiting to be returned to families, according to pet hospital staff.

“Their actions will cause immeasurable pain to grieving families who have already suffered so much,” the pet hospital posted on social media. “These ashes hold deep emotional value, and we are desperate to get them back to the people who loved these pets.”

According to the Brentwood Police Department, officers investigated the burglary on Saturday morning and saw the shattered glass door to the business. Security footage showed two masked individuals trying to gain access to the cash register and failing, but grabbing the bags that held the urns with pet ashes and exiting out the same broken glass door.

Anyone who finds pet ashes, urns, paw prints, or containers discarded anywhere in Brentwood or the surrounding areas is asked to contact Central Boulevard Veterinary Hospital at (925) 684-4443.

“We are not concerned about anything else that was taken — we just want to return these pets to their homes. No family should have to experience this level of grief again.”

Police are also hoping to hear from anyone who may have information helpful to this case. Anyone who may be able to help is encouraged to call (925) 809-7911. Callers may remain anonymous.
