The San Francisco Fire Department is sending crews to help battle the massive Gifford Fire burning in Central California, officials said.
The Gifford Fire, which started Aug. 1, has burned 99,232 acres in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties and was 15 percent contained on Thursday night, according to Cal Fire.
More than 3,400 firefighting personnel are battling the blaze and evacuations have been ordered for surrounding areas.
San Francisco is sending a strike team with five Type 6 wildland engines with three crew members each, and a chief’s vehicle to the blaze, fire officials said.
