A man suspected of killing an 18-year-old Morgan Hill woman last week was arrested at the Mexico-California border, police said Monday.
Authorities arrested Martin Mendoza at the border as he was reportedly coming back into the U.S., according to Morgan Hill police.
Marissa DiNapoli was found dead Wednesday, two days after she was reported missing.
Her family last heard from her June 28 when she texted them at 9:16 p.m., saying she planned to stay with a friend and would return home the following day.
Her family contacted police after they didn’t hear from her again.

Detectives determined DiNapoli was last seen alive at approximately 9:45 a.m. Saturday with a man named Martin Mendoza. They were seen leaving a residence on Trail Drive, just outside the Morgan Hill city limits. DiNapoli’s car was later located in the same area.
A police spokesperson deferred questions surrounding the circumstances of the arrest, including when it happened, to later Monday afternoon. A Morgan Hill police statement Monday morning said multiple law enforcement agencies were involved.
‘Our hearts remain broken’
Morgan Hill Mayor Mark Turner released a statement on Monday, saying “While Martin Mendoza’s capture does not bring Marissa back, it is a crucial step toward justice and healing for her family and friends. Our hearts remain broken for Marissa’s loved ones, and we will continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
“I urge everyone in our community to respect the ongoing investigation and allow law enforcement officials to do their job, ensuring that every aspect of this case is handled thoroughly and properly.”

Police said this safe and supportive space will be facilitated to guide shared reflection and healing, honoring DiNapoli’s’s life and providing comfort to those grieving.
