‘Conditions have deteriorated’: San Jose set to clear Columbus Park encampment — again

SAN JOSE IS MOVING FORWARD with plans to clear large camps of homeless people and prevent them from returning.

Sweeps were planned to begin June 16 and continue through June 30 to clear encampments where dozens of people are living in tents along the Guadalupe River from West Taylor Street to Interstate 880. The city plans to sweep Columbus Park next month — where homeless residents are living in more than 80 vehicles and RVs — and expects to finish clearing the site by October. Once the areas are cleared, the city will implement no encampment zones to keep people from setting up camp again.
